Codling

Calvin decided that he wanted to make a codling tonight. I managed to get some shots of it just before he put the fins on and also just as he finished it.

It'll now take three weeks to dry before it's first trip in the kiln. Then, if all goes well with the bisque firing, he's going to try and choose an appropriate glaze for the final firing.

Welcome to Edinburgh

After trying out a new technique to get this brilliant speckled black and white glaze, the final result is fantastic. Titled Edinburgh's Panda, Calvin has shown the two main cultural highlights in Edinburgh – the pandas at Edinburgh zoo and Krispy Kreme!

Half way through Calvin's exhibition

It's not too late to drop in and see Calvin's work at the Gallery on the Corner in Dundas Street. Have a wander in and look at his and other cool artists work too.

White gorilla

A cool white one with a brilliant crackle glaze.

Silverback gorilla

Calvin just finished creating a metallic silver gorilla. It looks like it's been spray painted. Very cool under low light.

Another Scottie dog!

Calvin did another West Highland Terrier and finished it off with a nice tartan bow. You can't get more Scottish than that – except if you put some shortbread around it.

I've included a picture I took of Calvin after he'd finished sculpting it just so you can see the scale.

This piece isn't part of the exhibition he has coming up at the start of April but it will be going into the gallery for showing/sale.

Good work Calvin!

Penguins

Calvin is really into his penguins at the moment. Here's a couple that have just been glazed.

Raa Raa the Noisy Lion!

As a little favour for a friends child, Calvin produced Raa Raa the Noisy Lion (a fantastic stop motion animation character on CBeeBies).

He loved it!

Buster Crinklechops

Another commission for Calvin is complete. This time he was asked to create a small bust of Buster Crinklechops!

A great little project for Calvin as, as well as reproducing a very powerful – and lovable – dog, he got to choose a brilliant glaze.

Scottie Dog

Calvin's made a new Scottie dog as the Gallery on the Corner loved the previous one he did on commission. He's finished it and is very happy with it.

Here's a picture of Calvin and the dog having a staring competition.

Penguin Exhibition

Calvin is hoping to be involved in an exhibition in the Spring time. He's working hard on some sculptures right now and seems to be into penguins at the moment. He's making large and small ones.

The small ones will all be huddled together on an iceberg. They are pretty cool looking – nice styling to them.

The larger ones might be individuals or part of colony. I think he's still to make his mind up.

He's going to be making more but these ones you see here are at different stages of drying before their first firing in the kiln.

I've also taken a photo of his new stamp that he's using on all his sculptures from now. It's shown here on a little penguin – the stamp only measures about 20mm wide. He's really chuffed with it.
