Samples of a few of Calvin's new glazes.
Now we have the kiln, Calvin has been trying out some of the different glazes he has. Here's three unusual ones he has.

Giraffe is finished!
Calvin has just completed his first commission done completely from start to finish within our house! Normally we have to get the firing in the kiln done else where but now we've got a wee kiln in the garage he's done the whole lot in the house. Great stuff!
We now just need to hope the person who commissioned it will like it.

Giraffe
Calvin has been commissioned to make a giraffe sculpture. He completed it on Saturday and it's now drying before going in to the kiln. Looks pretty sweet. Well done, Dude!

Nick Park from Aardman
Well now, I found this old press cutting tonight of when Calvin had an article written about him in the Sunday Post whilst he was still at Primary school. Oscar winner Nick Park from Aardman bigging up Calvin's work is pretty smooth!

Chav Gorilla
The other week Calvin made a chav gorilla complete with peaked baseball cap, gold chain, can of lager and, of course, a bull terrier.
He's waiting for the clay to dry before firing them and then glazing.

Exhibiting Artist!

Calvin has been asked by The Gallery on the Corner if they could show a few of his pieces of work at an exhibition that starts tomorrow. He's got a brooch, a stylised family of blue speckled birds and also the elephant and the gorilla you can see here.
It's quite a nice mixture of styles and sizes.

Warthog

Calvin is getting tuition on clay modelling from an artist in her studio and, as a home project, has made this warthog. He's been asked to make models from clay that can be auctioned at a charity event in the Spring – and he's getting paid for making them! Not sure what he's getting but it'll be in the thousands I'd expect.
Anyway, after the initial lesson – which was very informative – he's learnt about hollowing the model with paper and how to make sure that it doesn't explode in the kiln when it's fired. Using what he was taught he's made this warthog to take to his second lesson tomorrow afternoon.
It's all very exciting!
